Modern luxury for New Delhi retreat
New Delhi-based architecture and design firm Studio Crypt has designed the IL – Marmo at Chattarpur. The existing building was transformed into a quiet family retreat with strong accents of Italian marble across the floor. A muted color palette was needed to convey modern and understated luxury as the house would be inhabited only when the owners visit the city.
The design sees extensive use of white marble, contrasting with the woodwork and black granite panels, while pale brass can be found on the walls and furniture. The teal suede upholstery complements the changing seasons of Delhi and existing bamboo vegetation. Large window openings offer views of the farm upfront and the pool with its outhouse at the back.
Plain walls have been designed in stone, POP, hued mirror and gold leaf work. Delhi-based Craftmen Studio worked on alterations and handled the application of the Italian wall dado cladding. Furniture pieces were curated from the same studio, who manufactures luxury furniture. Carpets, rugs, upholstery and raw material have been sourced from within 200 miles of the site. Detailing has been emphasized upon in the selection and working of upholstery, joinery, and handles.
