British-and-Indian design for Mumbai restaurant
Mumbai-based design consultancy firm The Orange Lane by Des. Shabnam Gupta has designed The Butler & the Bay Leaf. The client brief was to design a restaurant that retraces the events unfolded during the evolution of Bombay to Mumbai. Memories of an old British home that housed social gatherings combined with authentic home-cooked Indian meals have been designed.
A long glass façade encompassed with botanical plants invites warmth and natural to the open space. Columns wrapped in deep-blue wooden panels, which display black-and-white photographs unfolding the story of generations. Dark wooden finished bar design stems up from the speakeasy concept of bars with old-school wood and glass paneling. Vintage furniture inculcates a homely feeling, with blue-and-white color palette and cane furniture with a pop of yellow.
