A brick curtain for Karnal

The Brick Curtain office in Karnal was designed by Noida-based Firki Studio. The office had been shifted from a buzzing commercial street to a homely residential area. The major highlight is the construction of the façade, which integrates the office with the street. It has been constructed in such a way as to give the illusion of rippling fabric – more precisely, a curtain. There is a small elevated portion that resides in the northern corner of the garden.

With a blend of the bold and subtle, the office space was built as an annex to the residence with two independent entries in the corner plot. The building features a waiting lounge on the ground floor, while the first floor housed the cabin spaces and workstations. A skylight invites natural light and ventilation, which helps as the house is sandwiched between two buildings.

An earthiness is added to the project through brick corbelling, while a double-height landscape court adjacent to the lounge blurs the lines between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
